The In-Between Season: How to Start Dressing for Fall When It Still Feels Like Summer

September in Nashville is a fashion identity crisis.

Your brain is ready for leather, layers and darker colors. The weather? Still very much committed to summer.

The good news is you don't need an entirely new wardrobe to start dressing for the season. In fact, some of the best fall outfits come from taking the pieces you've been wearing all summer and adding just enough texture, depth and contrast to make them feel new again.

Start With Texture, Not Temperature

Before reaching for heavy sweaters, introduce fabrics that feel like fall without making you miserable by noon.

Lace, sheer mesh, satin, lightweight denim and leather accessories instantly add dimension to an outfit. Try a lace top with your favorite jeans, a silky skirt with a worn-in graphic tee, or a darker handbag with the dress you've been wearing all summer.

It's less about covering up and more about changing the mood.

Let Your Colors Get a Little Moodier

You don't have to abandon color when September arrives.

Instead, start bringing richer shades into the mix: chocolate brown, oxblood, plum, charcoal, black, cream and dusty olive. Even one darker accessory can shift an otherwise summery outfit toward fall.

And don't be afraid to mix them. Chocolate with plum. Burgundy with faded denim. Black lace with cream. Silver hardware against something soft and feminine.

The unexpected combinations are usually the interesting ones.

Add the Piece That Changes the Outfit

At Wilde, we're big believers that an outfit doesn't need ten interesting things.

Sometimes it just needs one.

A statement necklace. An incredible bag. A sheer layer. A belt with great hardware. Something that takes the pieces already hanging in your closet and makes you want to wear them differently.

That's also why we're approaching fall a little differently this year. Rather than filling the shop with things simply because they're "fall," we're looking for pieces with personality—things that can move between seasons, be styled multiple ways and earn their place in your wardrobe.

Don't Dress for a Trend. Dress Like Yourself.

Fall fashion can come with a lot of instructions.

This color is in. That silhouette is out. You suddenly need this specific jacket, shoe or handbag to look current.

We'd rather you take what inspires you and make it your own.

Wear the lace with beat-up denim. Put the delicate necklace over the graphic tee. Mix silver and gold. Wear something feminine with something a little tougher. Keep wearing your favorite summer dress and make it feel completely different with the right accessories.

Personal style isn't about starting over every season.

It's about continuing to discover what feels like you.

And that's exactly what we're looking forward to this fall at Wilde.

Stay Wilde.
